Nevermind Black Friday, you’ll want to wait until next year to upgrade your Samsung TV

With the dizzying number of discounts and deals around for Black Friday right now, it might seem like the perfect time to buy a new telly. And if the Smart TV you’ve had your eye on all year drops to a record-low price – then it probably is the perfect time to upgrade! However, those wanting the ultimate cinematic experience at home might want to hold out until 2021, if the latest hint from Samsung is anything to go by.

The South Korean firm has registered a bucketload of new trademarks, including the likes of QLED Neo, QLED Platinum, QLED Z, Quantum Matrix and QLED+. While registering trademarks isn’t itself proof that Samsung is planning new TVs, it’s a pretty sizeable hint that we’re likely to see a range of new QLED models hit store shelves in 2021.

These trademarks were first spotted by go-to gogglebox blogs 4KFilme and FlatPanels HD. Unfortunately, Samsung has yet to confirm whether these brand names are genuine – and whether we should expect a barrage of new and upgraded QLED TVs in the new year. Unfortunately, it’s unlikely Samsung will ever confirm the existence of these new sets until they’re ready to launch.

However, a number of other recent rumours hint that these trademarks could mark something truly special from Samsung. The technology firm is widely-tipped to be looking to introduce miniLED LCD TVs in 2021. These panels are said to offer much deeper blacks and brighter highlights compared to standard LCD TVs on sale right now.

Looking at the trademarks registered by Samsung, it seems highly possible that it would market its first miniLED telly as a new QLED variant. For example, Quantum Matrix could be the brand name for miniLED LCD TVs.

Samsung’s new update gives Watch 2 owners more reason not to upgrade

If that theory proves true, forging a standard LCD TV in the Black Friday sales in favour of waiting to plump for a new miniLED one next year could seriously boost your next movie night at home.

Elsewhere, tipsters suggest Samsung is gearing up to launch the first-ever Quantum Dot-OLED TV in the near future. Dubbed QD-OLED, this is expected to be a substantial upgrade on every TV currently on the market as it’s rumoured to combine the cavernous blacks found in OLED panels (like the ones on flagship smartphones from Samsung and Apple) and the unrivalled brightness found on QLED panels.

QLED Neo or QLED Platinum could be new brand names used to sell this unparalleled technology.

Thankfully, we might not have to wait long before we find out what Samsung plans to do with these newly registered trademarks. Around this time last year the South Korean technology form registered trademarks for Dual LED, Zero Bezel and Infinity Screen …and less than two months later, it took the wraps off the first bezel-less Infinity Q950TV 8K TV.

So, fingers crossed we’ll find out what QLED Platinum looks like in a few weeks time. Either way, if you’re looking for the best possible viewing experience at home… waiting just a little longer could really pay off.
