Apple has announced two new bands for the Apple Watch to mark 2020 Pride.
The first is a rainbow band that many will be instantly familiar with while the second comes from sportswear brand Nike and is made for the Nike Edition Apple Watch.
Alongside the bands will be new virtual watch faces arriving with the watchOS 6.2.5 update.
‘The Pride Edition Sport Band is assembled by hand from individual strips of colored fluoroelastomer,’ explains Apple. ‘The strips are then machine die-cut and compression molded together. This process results in subtle variations in the wavy rainbow design, making each band artfully unique.’
Pride Month, observed every June, is obviously going to be very different this year with no gatherings possible because of the coronavirus.
The UK’s biggest LGBTQ festival had been due to take place on Saturday, June 27, but now organisers have had to cancel their plans ‘with a heavy heart’.
Last year’s event was attended by hundreds of thousands of revellers, but this year countless other Prides around the country have also been called off.
Organisers say a new date for the capital’s festival will be announced ‘in due course’.
